MISSIONS AND CHARITIES INFORMATION
Information from National Missions and Charities Officer, Patricia A. O'Connell
I am honored to serve as your National Officer of Missions and Charities for the 2008-2010 Term. Thank you to the many persons who supported my candidacy at the 94th Biennial Convention held in New Orleans, LA.
Through your generous contributions and support from the National Board the following monies were allocated at the 94th Biennial Convention: (1) Columban Fathers, $55,000 with Mass Cards included, (2) Columban Sisters, $18,500, (3) Sisters of the Holy Family,$17,500. In addition, $14,000 was allocated in one-time amounts to five (5) groups through the Appeals for Aid process. Each LAOH member should be proud of our generous contributions. Your generosity provides another manner of spreading our Faith and support to those who have great needs.
NATIONAL MISSIONS AND CHARITIES INFORMATION
Now I ask each of you to commit your continuing support to our National Charities, Columban Fathers, Columban Sisters, & Danielle House, during this 2008-2010 term until we meet at the 95th Biennial Convention in Cincinnati, OH in July 2010. As you know, we have had a long, sustaining relationship with the Columban Fathers and more recently with the Columban Sisters as our National Charities. At the 94th Biennial Convention in New Orleans, we committed to add Danielle House as a two-year recipient of funds as a one of our National Charities.
As your National Officer of Missions & Charities, I ask you to support our LAOH National Charities and your local charities. Each State is expected to support our National Charities in addition to the local charities determined by each Division, County, and State Board. I look forward to working with you and on your behalf during these next two years.
If you have not checked out the websites of our National Charity recipients, I encourage you to do so and to share this information at your various meetings at each level within our organization. Here are the websites: (1) Columban Fathers, www.columban.org, (2) Columban Sisters, www.columbansisters.org, and (3) Danielle House, www.daniellehouse.org.
Columban Fathers
During the 2008 Year, the Columban Fathers celebrated their 90th Anniversary. Pope Benedict XV approved the Missionary Society of St. Columban in 1918. The Columban Fathers are presently serving in 14 countries, Australia, Britain, Chile, China, Fiji, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Taiwan, and the United States. These missionaries continue to direct their focus on matters of justice, peace, environment, world international debt and authentic enculturation of the gospel to world culture & religion.
Columban Fathers' Mission: "The demands of the Gospel call us to stand with the poor. The suffering of the downtrodden becomes our cross, too. That is the work of the Missionary Society of St. Columban in the United States and around the World. We cross boundaries of country, language and culture to establish the Catholic Church among people who have never heard the Gospel; we help churches mature until they are able to evangelize their own people; we promote dialogue between Christians and those of other religious faiths."
You may order a "Starter Kit" from the Columban Fathers (402-291-1920) that contains forms and cards that your members may elect to use when making donations in the name of the Columban Fathers. It is recommended that you submit a $10 payment when ordering a "Starter Kit." You may also subscribe to the Columban Magazine by ordering on-line or by calling the Columban Offices at the number stated above. The subscription fee is $10.
Columban Sisters
The Columban Sisters were founded in Ireland in 1924. The Columban Sisters are a part of the Missionary Society of St. Columban, but have a separate organizational structure from the Columban Fathers. The Columban Sisters are presently serving in 11 countries, Chile, China, England, Ireland, Korea, Myanmar, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Scotland, and the United States. These missionaries continue to provide service in these areas: pastoral outreach, education, medical, faith formation and spirituality, and social service.
Columban Sisters' Mission: "The Columban Sisters are a congregation of missionary religious women whose commitment to God leads them to cross boundaries of culture, language, and belief to proclaim the Good News of Jesus in today's world."

FORMS TO BE USED WHEN MAKING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE NATIONAL CHARITIES
When making a donation to one of our National Charities, you are to complete the Office of Missions and Charities Report Form and forward the completed form along with your donation. This Office of Missions and Charities Report Form is accessible below.
In order for your Division, County, and State to be credited for the donations made to the National Charities, Columban Fathers, Columban Sisters, and Danielle House, your monies must be received by the National Missions & Charities Officer. If you send your contributions directly to one of the National Charities, you do not earn credit for your Division, County or State.
If your Division, County, or State elects to use the Columban Fathers' Forms (LAOH Mass Form [pink], LAOH Healing Prayer Form [white], or LAOH Enrollment Form [green]), you are to send those forms only to the Columban Fathers as stated on the form. You must also complete the National Missions and Charities Report Form and indicate how you want your donation to the Columban Fathers allocated and mail the completed form as stated on the form along with your check. If the donation is made at the Division Level, the paper trail goes to the County Level if applicable, and then to the State Level. Each level should maintain a copy of the National Missions and Charities Report Form so that you have records of your contribution by date and amount. All of the National Charities are 501 C3 entities.
On the National Website, you may also access Acknowledgement Forms for donations being made to the Columban Sisters or Danielle House if you are making your contribution in memory of someone or in honor of someone. The Acknowledgement Form is sent to the person you want to inform of the donation. Again, remember your completed National Missions & Charities Report Form and check must be forwarded as stated on the form for your Division, County, or State to be credited with the donation.
The only required form to complete when making a donation to one of the National Charities is the National Missions & Charities Report Form. Your check coming from the State level should be made payable to LAOH, Inc. when forwarded with your completed Missions and Charities Report Form to the National Missions and Charities Officer.
